Gasoline Futures are making new all-time high records
Contract Value – This is futures price (x) Open Interest and shows the importance of the “Money”. Total Value of gas futures is $55,000,000,000, so a $1 move on futures has gain or loss of $386,636,000, in the highs of 2008 a $1 move had a gain or loss of $275,372,000. Just because the futures charts are below the highs all-time-highs, doesn’t mean that much. Since the lows in 2008 the gains and losses has been 10 fold.
The third dimension is the depth of the chart which isn't visible in a two dimensional chart. As 3-D programs evolve, it would be interesting to see this chart from all sides...
